A Capella @ The Pointe Palm Jumeriah Dubai

Once you have weaved your way past two or three competing restaurants on the terrace of The Pointe, you come to A Capella. The decor barely distinguishes it from its competitors but this can be deceptive as soon the food and drink experience that follows sets A Capella as a unique and special eating experience. The views of the Atlantis across the bay of water and the light and fountain show that repeats itself every 30 minutes create an ambience that makes your visit special.

It would be hard to classify this restaurant with a "Passport" menu of offers from select countries, and the food presentation with hints of fusion cooking, (A Tandoori chicken with Japanese sauces as an example). Put aside the need to label this eat place and each item you taste is an explosion of flavours and an attention to gastronomic detail that made us feel A Capella really does deliver. The Aalo Tiki (potato starters) and the Patata Bravas (from Spain) were simply exceptional. The Yellow Dal with some of the best garlic naan ever served in Dubai were delightful. It was nice to taste Dal without overpowering spices and cooked to perfect consistency.

The Pepperoni Turnovers was a wonderful twist to the USA section with excellent presentation and taste to match. The Lamb Bao was divine and the taste buds awakened to a delightful offering. The Dragon Chicken while in the Japan section of the Passport menu had overtones of Chinese flavours which clearly showed it didn't matter whether it was Japanese or Chinese because it tasted just too good. The Asian Curry Prawns served with curry buns was the main course one could order again and again.

While we did not get to chat with the chef but Paritosh Sharma clearly has a talent that created an evening of delightful food which deserve more accolades.

The servings were small and therefore manageable and made sure that no food was left on the plate. One could easily have had a meal with just the starters, (which are not listed as starters, the only hint being they are priced lower than the main dishes).

Pros:

  • Sensibly priced menu that offers a food quality way above the price point one pays.
  • Attentive and well trained staff.
  • Excellent food.
  • View from the terrace seating is breathtaking.
Cons.

  • Sound pollution from other restaurants which might prompt management to speak to The Pointe to have restaurants have a decibel limit on music,
  • Positioning in write up talks of a bar-kitchen balance in the offering; this food deserves not to be classified as bar food.
  • Parking can be an issue and DH 50 for valet parking came in a bit steep.

Over all Comment.

A Capella is a gem and a place one is likely to visit quite a few times. The food experience is worth its weight in gold and it would be nice to see the Dubai food scene to recognise A Cappella for the excellent effort which creates a unique food experience. Bravo.
