The Bolt hole @ Villanova Dubai.

The Bolt Hole at the new community of Villanova (on E 611 near Habtoor Polo) is the latest addition to community centred food and drink offerings in Dubai. Community focused eateries always have a challenge to cater to the diverse cultural composition of residents in Dubai's communities. The Bolt Hole certainly overcomes that challenge with ease through two simple steps; a diverse but uncomplicated international menu and secondly with an impeccable quality of food and service. Yes for out of the main stream restaurants TBH comes across as pricey, however in fairness this Jumeriah group owned place does have a mix of price points that can let you enjoy a good meal without breaking the bank.

There is some chatter that a price review is in the offing but still judging by the reception the place is getting there are a lot of good things going on here. The decor is very good and inviting; comfortable, uncluttered. The open kitchen is an attraction in itself seeing 8 or 9 staff busy, set near the bar, and then a big expanse of seating suggests some careful thought has gone into this place. The bar is well stocked and Ericson, the mixologist, at the bar is perhaps one of the best in the business. The manager, Vicky is on hand, friendly and engaging and staff such as Mabel and others make you feel very welcome as indeed one should feel in a community eatery.

The appeal of The Bolt Hole will be to more than just the residents of Villanova as one can see residents from adjoining communities are popping in to try this place. The food quality is excellent. The Nasi Goreng is exceptional with a good balance of taste and texture. The Green Curry was not over burdened with spices, as one finds in many places, and was gentle on the palate with a slight after taste of the spice. On our second visit we found the Fish and Chips to be perhaps the best we have had in Dubai. The fish was not over battered, and it was a huge serving (three of us shared it with ease), with the fish being moist and perfectly cooked. The Crunch Crab for starters was at a level of its own. Very clever preparation and the accompanying Lime and Pepper Aioli sauce was just the right thing. Whoever came up with the Firangi Chicken deserves a pat on the back, it hit the spot right on with mint chutney and the perfectly cooked chicken thighs (off the bone).

Pros:

  • Excellent food.
  • Perfect ambiance.
  • Superb staff.
  • Best mixologist at the bar.
  • Balanced and engaging menu.
Cons:
  • Pricey as an evening for a family of four could hit the wallet hard.
  • Depending on the season sitting outside could expose one to mosquitos.
Overall Verdict: A must visit place, and most likely one will be impressed enough to make it ones local for repeated visits. The warmth of food and the staff are compelling reasons on their own for more than a fleeting visit. Well Done to The Bolt Hole team.
